Thanks for the warning Wildman, I hate it when I open a thread and THERE ARE BIRD PICS INSIDE IT!!!!!
It makes me feel bad that I just posted a BIRD PIC in another thread without an APPROPRIATE WARNING. At least none of your beautiful birds have snotty noses so I believe most of us will forgive you.
BTW, great pics, please keep them coming.

Re: WARNING - yet more bird pics

I personally love bird pics, and some of these are exceptional!

Here are a few comments:

#1. Good exposure and sharpness, but I wish there was a little more room in front of the bird. Try cropping less from the original.

#2. Very nice. The background "bokeh" is stunning. To improve, try cropping a bit off the right, to put the bird off-centered, following the rule-of-thirds. Also, if you are particularly handy with cloning, removing the branches in background will help.

#3. Good portrait, but the blurred shadowed (tail...?) is very distracting.

#4. Love it. Background is again a bit distracting but no big deal.

#5. VERY good! Cloning out the weed will help.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the comments.

With the exception of the Chickadee they are all at full frame. They were taken with my 1000mm glass so what you see is about all you get.

You can imagine swinging such a tripod mounted cannon around on small fast moving passerines doesn't give you much time for composition - it seems sometime it's down to nano seconds especially with Kinglets and Warblers.

I have to admit to being very conservative about background noise. I want to preserve, as much as possible a sense of habitat but, of course, sometimes things can get bit busy. For the forum I don't spend a lot of time PP but for publication and printing I do clone out the really distracting stuff if I think it's really necessary.

The Catbird shot I threw in more for technical interest than anything else. It's far from perfect but an interesting shot anyway.

Bokeh with a 1000mm glass at 30x is pretty much a non-issue. The DOF is pretty much paper thin so I tend not to worry much about the background. Anyway all my glass is fixed aperture so I have to take the bokeh I get.

But as I said if I was going print these pics I probably would clone out some of the background noise.

A few that I think work pretty well compositionally -

Ahhhh nice. Thanks.

#5 should have a more interesting name. Plain old "house finch" just doesn't do it

My feather stylist promised it would wash out sooner than this RED House Finch.

Girl, life ain't fair; all this carmine plumage and I end up with a grackle with a pot belly House Finch.
