The Huntsman

Jeff, the 3rd and 4th are my favorites and I think they evoke the mood you are going for. I would love to see the 4th one in color as flowers are one of the few subjects which I do not feel benefit from being shot in B&W.

For my contribution to the thead I submit the following shot. It's not strictly "soft focus" but has that effect by doing a digital version of "the orton effect" using photoshop.

Mike

p.s. Thanks Jeff for the invitation to post this in your thread.

Nice thread Jeff!!! Love your shots - well done good sir!

Here's an intentional soft focus:

Mike, that Hunter image with those effects is sweet.

Marc

I agree and the way you have focused it, makes the shot! Really like your whole series. JIM

Thanks Marc... Always loved that Civil War shot. Did I tell you I've been asked to shoot production stills for a Civil War documentary (using extensive reenactment portions) that is set to begin filming in mid 2010? I'm rather excited.

O.K., I'm in:

Soft and smooth rendition of a high action shot of a surfer going up off the lip of a large wave.

How did I do?

Great Idea for a Thread

I have some to share. Time to do so over the weekend. In fact I have a few in the cameras I had intentionally soft focused. Will see how they turn out.

Like each of the posts here so far. Civil War ones, first one in particular. Each of jeffkpotter's set the theme up.

Interesting comment on the b&w flowers. I like this one and have done quite a few too that are good.

Looking forward to see more.

Flowers are just so colorful in general that it seems a shame to do them in B&W. Don't get me wrong, I've seen some great B&W flower photos but most work best with the color intact.

I Know! I understand what you are saying here. Me too; I mean why waste all that color? And then that category of "some great b&w flower photos" got quite large! Plus the whole use of IR or pseudo IR came to my attention... I did some that are so beautiful. And the color ones look nice. Nice like so many other flower pictures.
