"Dreads" is slang for the young man's hair style...short for dreadlocks. (Long hair matted together into uncombable rope-like spikes.)

Thanks Steve! Always learning something in the forum! We call that "rasta" which should mean something internationally too, I think?

YOu can see gary's dreads in his little pic

thanks for all the replies and the like (some on my behalf) i have been flat out busy this weekend
His dreads are only newish, he has finally manged to get them looking half decent, he wants me to take him to a store to have them sorted properly, YOU gary may be able to advise me on this

Actually Taff, that was taken on the day my wife Jess was putting the dreads in.
It was at Burning Man a year and a half ago. Burning Man: What is Burning Man?

I never went to a store, tell him to just get some wax and keep playing with them.
