In the Clouds
Posted By: scole, 04-26-2009, 01:46 PM

Views of Mount Baker from the ski area, taken during the transition from sunny weather to storm system. I had to wait a while but my goal was a shot with sunshine on Coleman Pinnacle (spire in the lower right center).

Park Glacier Icefall

As I was set up, breaks in the clouds would cast these moving windows of sunshine across the snow..

And sometimes I'd swing around 180 degrees for the same effect. Here some sunshine quickly sped across the upper slopes of Hemispheres..

All shots w/ K10d and the DA 55-300. Thanks for looking..

Good shots of some amazing looking landscape We get nothing like that here in the UK!

The snow looks a little to dark though, I tried a quick auto levels adjustment on the 1st one and it looks a bit better..(inmho)

sorry for messin with your picture but its the easiest way to explain!

Whoops. Thanks, Tom. Been staring at these for too long and totally blew that aspect. I've corrected it and updated my original post.

I love the last shot with the dappled light. It creates interest and contours and makes the mountains come alive.

Excellent exposure, imo, you seem to have captured all the fine shadows from those hills! Great work!

Thanks Gawan, and everyone else for the comments. The biggest problem I seemed to have was selecting a White Balance. I tend to switch back & forth between SHADE & CLOUDY when shooting in the snow and for whatever reason, I had a hard time making a decision about which setting to use this time. I'm real happy with the results.
