Cool Spring day at the Fort Museum
Posted By: IowaBoy, 04-28-2009, 09:49 AM

It was much colder than it looks, but I managed to get myself out of the car for a few shots.

Thanks for commenting. There are so many great photos uploaded to this site every day it is easy to get lost in the shuffle. Sometimes there are lots of views but no critique from anyone. Even someone saying a picture falls short is informative to the photographer. But I don't always have time to comment on others so I do apreciate anyone who takes the time!

I like the pictures, but I feel they are a little oversharpened. Also, I see some dust spots toward the upper right hand corner.

Other than that, a wonderful set of images!

Yes guilty on the sharpening. I did not sharpen at all at first. Then one day I tried to figure why most of the pictures of other people on line looked better than mine and I realized mine needed some sharpening as they are shot raw and processed in Aperture item by item. So like adding salt I had to go overboard to find my taste. The problem with the photos I have here were put on flickr w/o salt so I took the lazy way out and used flickr online tools rather than reload the pix. There are some flaws in retouching because I was so taken with my new camera & software I went with quick and dirty and will have to do some closer looks when I try printing. Thanks for looking close enough to make your comments.

The last one really works for me although it is a tad oversharpened - it has the look and feel of a high contrast black & white shot but in color.

The 1st on has distinctive halos - so a no go.

Sharpen at 100% view size until halo's are only just visible.

A good program to use to resize down to 1024x768 etc is Fastone Image Resizer and just dial in +2 sharpening and you're good to go.

Great looking place - I love the old town looks. I almost thought they were HDR - but I see just a tad oversharpening. Nice series.
