300mm @ a wedding
Posted By: dylansalt, 04-29-2009, 08:57 AM

Howzit guys

Was at my good friend's wedding and just wanted to take a few pics for myself.

I used my 55-300 zoom at the long end as I stood right at the back of the hall and so not get in the way of the pro.

Had to shoot at 1600 ISO F6.3 and around 1/60sec with spot metering. The lighting was difficult as there was huge amounts of natural daylight coming through a dirtyish white plastic backing behind them.

I was just intrigued how using a 300mm at a wedding would do.

Please be reminded that I'm nowhere near a pro at this type of photography

Dylan

1st let me saying your timing was good in capturing their expressions and your hand was steady or was it a tripod? What brand was the lens? Was it the only lens you used that day? I am trying to pick a tele for some summer shooting. Anyway under any circumstances your photos were quite lovely.

Thanks

The lens is the new Pentax 55-300 and generally lives on my cam unless I want to go wide angle.

No tripod was used and is testimony to the real world benefit of in camera SR.

I did brace my back on the back wall and my technique and stance is almost the same as shooting a rifle - still though SR really makes a diff.

Thanks to the other guys for the kind comments

cheers

Nice shots!

For the second picture, did you do any PP?

Yet another plug for the 55-300. Well done, I would never have thought of using that set up at a wedding.
Proves me wrong.....again!!!

Howzit

It was converted from raw in camera and the soft focus filter used.

Other pp was slight WB correction and additional sharpening.

To the other guys - thanks

cheers

Very hard to use this 300mm given that the zoom is rather dark to use.

Well done!

These are very fine wedding pictures regardless of lens. Thanks for posting them.
