Had the chance...
Posted By: paulyrichard, 04-29-2009, 09:37 AM

...to meet, talk with and photograph the great 8x10 photographer Paul Barkshire, wanderin' around Shoreditch today in London. He uses an old 8x10 Wista.

His photography documents old and lost London, and you can see his work here: Tweaker Zine - Folio - Paul Barkshire

Great shot... is that a 'regular' cigarette he's got there?

Terrific capture of a moment in time, and like all of your B&W conversions, this one is very satisfying.

Thanks guys.

Buddha, that is what is customarily known in my country as a 'rollup'. Its not a regular cigarette, no.
People here can buy pouches of tobacco and some papers to roll their own.

Excellent portrait. Even the background pattern makes his simple elegant posture stand out. And I really like the fact you cropped his head to accentuate his look and mannerisms, a point so much discussed on this forum.

Thanks JMR.

The shot was composed that way in camera. I jus' lopped off a few inches on the right side to maintain a 1:1 crop.

You meet many cigarette smoking guys, and also seem to have them relaxed before your camera Good shot, I like the expression he has!
