Beautiful colours Heinrich. It reminds me of a wasp nest but I don't think it is.

Great shots Heinrich, I like the structure and the colour. As Gary said, my first thoughts were a wasp nest, but I agree it is not. Some sort of seed head from a thistle or so? Probably not, because it's not pentagonic enough.... Don't know....

Nice macro Heinrich - I like the pine cone guess - looks to be 'wood' of some sort - but truly you have me stumped.

Hi Dave, you'll have to stay stumped for a little while longer, won't to see whether somebody else is going to bite :-)

Congratulations minikin, you won first price !!

Last summer we had a lot of self seeded sunflowers in the garden, they were rather on the small side no more than 3 to 4 inches in diameter. In the Fall I gathered them up and left them out for the birds. After the snow was gone this spring (what spring?) I cleaned them up and put them in the compost bin and that's when I looked at them and got the camera out.

Great, I knew I was close! Thistles and sunflowers are from the same family, so I feel rather satisfied with my guess....

Heinrich, the first shot works well. I like the structure facing up into the sky. Good abstract you have done here!

You can believe me or not but my first choice was sunflower and I dismissed it because of the time of year.
Just goes to show that the old adage remains true, go with your gut feelings.

They are great captures Heinrich.

Gary, I do believe you. Happened to me many times, you don't go with your gut feeling because logic gets in the way.

Take care,
