Hummingbird Aerial Shots
Posted By: sajmmiller, 05-01-2009, 04:31 PM

Inspired by hummingbird shots I've seen posted here by Marc and others, I put up a feeder a couple of weeks ago. Today was my first try at capturing a few of these little aerobats. I used my K10D with DA 55-300mm lens plus the AF-540FGZ flash set to manual. All were handheld and manually focused. I'm going to try some different setups in the future, but I was pleased with these for my first try. Comments always appreciated!

Thanks Scott! Glad you liked them, and I hope you are enjoying your DA 55-300mm as much as I'm enjoying mine.

Thanks for posting these. I've got a couple of hummingbirds that have been visiting my backyard and have not been terribly successful getting shots of them. I think I'll try a flash and see if that helps - I have the same lens as you mention - a DA 55-300.

This is one of the better shots I had - but its wings are not showing up that well. Do you think a flash might help? (I'm not really that far from them, so I think my flash would reach). I have a lot to learn about photography.
