The Altiplano of Peru
Posted By: xs400, 05-04-2009, 10:31 AM

The Altiplano is the high plains of Peru, at the base of the higher peaks of the Andes Mountains. These high plains are about 12,000 to 14,500 feet above sea level. I found the Altiplano to be strikingly beautiful. The last picture in the series was taken at 14,500 feet. Since it is close to the equator, they don't get a lot of snow below 15,000 feet elevation. I found it quite surprising to find people living at these high altitudes.

Strikingly beautiful scenery - looks like a lot of the Nevada high desert, it sure is a lot higher there though. Looks like a great trip you're on.

Beautiful shots. Absolutely beautiful blue skies! I can only imagine how awesome the skies are there at night. High altitude and dark skies would be an astrophotographers dream.

Very nice, Frank. I really like the second image , in particular. Those blue skies and puffy white clouds are unreal, but so real.
