The cathedral of Lima, Peru
Posted By: xs400, 05-05-2009, 08:58 AM

In Peru, it seems like every town and city has a main square with a large church or cathedral. We were told that in the past there used to be a kind of competition between towns to see who could have the nicest town square and Catholic church. Lima was no different in that respect, and they have an impressive cathedral on the main square. We did not have a lot of time to tour the interior, but the cathedral is quite beautiful both inside and out.

What a majestic building indeed do you happen to know when it was built ? Is the grey building a new addition. Nice shot of the inside as well.

Thanks Dave. Regarding the cathedral. Construction was originally started in 1535. However, the cathedral was damaged by several earthquakes, including ones in 1609, 1746 and 1940. There have also been other additions, rebuilds and remodels of the cathedral using different styles. Thus the two bell towers are a different style than the main entrance to the cathedral. For more info on the cathedral see Cathedral of Lima - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Damn, that 16-45 is quite the performer! (And the photographer too, of course. )

All I can say is WOW. Very nice photos and thanks for sharing. I don't have a wide angle lens and 16-45mm looks a stellar performer.

Very nice series and as well all your other Peru shots. I really enjoyed Machu Pichu, it's one of those places I'd love to see some day but probably will never get to. I've seen many tv shows about it and the views are breathtaking.
