If only I had an umbrella....
Posted By: Rense, 05-05-2009, 11:51 AM

We celebrated our liberation day today, because on the 5th of May, WW II came to an end officially by the capitulation of the German army. This took place in Wageningen, in Hotel "De Wereld" (The World), and here we have our national celebration. It's only 7 km from ours, so I visited the festivities and made a lot of photos, amongst wich this one.....

Excellent shot Rense.

I can't help seeing the amusing side of things though. The policeman on the left of the shot has the expression and stance of an athlete about to attempt the high jump.

and the one on the right seems devoid of any sense of humour.

Lovely dof control - isolating from the background but not too much.

Thank you Gary! You are right, that's how athletes do it before their jump. I interpreted it as if he wanted to get in his coat totally....

Very emotive shot. Nicely done.

#there seems to be some conjecture (not to disagree with you, Rense) on the actual date of the surrender.
I was born 7th May 1945 and have always been told that day was classed as Victory Day.
But does it really matter ?

Thank you Bruce! Today, I heard on the radio that the actual date of the signing of the surrender was the 6th May 1945....
