Lacrosse with K100D and DA50-200 (6 imgs)
Posted By: jsundin, 04-18-2007, 07:14 AM

There are questions from time to time about using the K100D for sports and whether people need to get the more expensive fast lenses out there. I just got the DA50-200 and am finding it a great lens for sports. I have gien up some reach, from my Tamron 28-300, but the quality seems to be much better to me. I may alternate throughout the year and try them both. But, the lightness and quickness of the 50-200 make me love it!

I fixed the shutter at 1/350 sec, which gave me f6.7 on most of the shots because it was very cloudy last Saturday here. Mainly the range was in the 160-200mm range. I was either in the stands or on the sideline. From the sideline, there is a fence, a short area, then the field, so I could not be right on them)

My son's friend going against someone almost 6 inches taller and 50 pounds heavier (8th graders)

My son

My son, cutting through traffic. He's learning to control his size as he blasts through.

Getting caught up in the air, but just getting a pass off. (Feet are off the ground)

Scoop and run. (I was up in the stands on this shot)

I like this one also. I may try spot exposure on these turf fields. If the sun comes out, it shines off the fake grass. (I was also in the stands on this shot)

Nice action shots, I've never been to a lacross game, but I imagine it's very fast-paced (and hard to photograph).

Great series of pictures, very sharp. Your son's friend would probably love to have that first one!

Yes, I will be giving his parents a collection of that one and several more. I got a whole series of him badgering this big boy with his tenacious defense.

My charge for the pictures is a simple trade. I give them the pictures, and they agree to pick up my son if he is ever stranded at a game/practice. Fair trade.

Great work Jeff.
The DA50-200 seems to do the job fine. The photos are sharp and clear. I love number four where they are all in the air.

Cheers

Great shots Jeff, I haven't seen a lacross game since I was a Stumpy at Syracuse. I especially like the first and the 5th shots. Great captures.

If the sun cpmes out - put on a polariser to cut the glare from the "grass".
Fun shots.
