some random images from the past week

all images were shot with the Pentax K10D

top two are from the SMC K 50mm f/1.2 - I went through two eggs to obtain that shot in the studio. The reflection image is something I have wanted to do for a long time, but I had never found a reflection that I liked. I used the 50mm shot wide open at f/1.2 and the image is quite sharp, I forced myself to get everything right in one shot...and I did.

House No 31 was taken with the 31mm f/1.8 limited - I couldn't resist the opportunity.

the bamboo ( does anyone know what the writing means?) was taken with the FA77 f/1.8 limited at f/2.8 with the AF540FGZ+ stofen diffuser - (surreal bokeh)

last one was taken at Kangaroo Island with the Sigma 100-300 f/4 APO EX DG

feel free to comment/critique these images..

Hey, man - what a creative series. The egg and blue door knock me out.

now for some wildlife work with my sigma 100-300mm f/4 APO EX DG

it's a great lens if you can live with it's slow Aperture, I recently bought a second AF540FGZ so I can do wireless High speed sync and having a constant F4 is really useful.

I hope the K7 - or whatever they are going to call it has a higher sync speed, even when you're working with flash camera shake can become an issue.

with the Pentax K10 battery grip the lens balances nicely, the set up weighs somewhere around 2.4 Kg I can comfortably hand hold this for a few hours.

thanks roentarre, I'll be very interested in the K7 when it comes out, especially how the FA limited lenses should be able to make the most out of it. The Pentax K 50mm f/1.2 should be able to handle it.
something from the 31mm f/1.8 limited

Some good shots in this series. Good overall compositions. I especially like the seal series.

I came across House No 31 this time armed with my Pentax K 50mm f/1.2 - I'm actually getting more and more accurate with focusing this lens
personally I prefer this image over the first.

Iso 1000 -1/125s @ f/1.2

some more Images From around the country...and two HDR images...let's see if you guys can spot them.

First image is from the FA77 f/1.8 limited

the rest were taken with my trusty, and now redundant Pentax DA 16-45mm f/4 ED AL

I really like the boat and the cracked earth images. It looks like the boat is being taken, subsumed by the earth. Excellent image. I would not have mentioned that you used HDR, as the images are very well done.

thanks for the compliment mate, the cracked mud image was a HDR by necessity. I calculated a complete tonal range of 13.2 stops (that's why I drag my Sekonic L608 around with me). Being a Large format photographer who religiously uses the Zone system, I used my knowledge of tonal relationships to produce that image so it doesn't look like a HDR - as Michael Reichman said: " HDR has the potential to produce some truly ghastly images"

But I believe I maintained the tonal relationships despite the extreme tonal ranges represented in that image. It would be extremely difficult to produce an image like that in the Chemical darkroom, 10 stops is the most I have ever printed by hand. there are some who have claimed an even greater range but those images, to my eye, don't resemble anything in reality.

i'm curious as to why you stated "I would not have mentioned that you used HDR"

HDR is just another tool, why should we be afraid to use it?
