Good Morning Sunshine
Posted By: Mallee Boy, 05-07-2009, 07:05 PM

Hi,
I have been a bit 'distracted' of late and not doing what I enjoy most.

Rectified that this morning.

Hope you enjoy.

Cheers
Grant

Photographing sunrises and working is tricky, your either, too early & have to leave, too late or just too damned tired, and then of course you need mother nature to co-operate.
this morning did not start out all that well...

....but I had time on my side, so decided to stick around, intrigued by the hint of a glow at the horizon

...and yes, it started to look a little promising, so after messing around trying ( I said trying) to be artistic with water drops

..things started to get interesting

....now if the sun would just kindly pop into that hole in the cloud, it could get really interesting

for the next instalment, see the next post

And it did

Thank you mother nature, it was worth the effort and has re-inspired me a bit.
All shot with the K200D & Pentax 17-70. Monopod. Minimal pp (straighten, crop, vibrancy tweak in LR)

Personal opinion but I reckon the last one is the best.

Nice series Grant indeed a lot of photography is about patience as much as anything ... waiting it out was worth the effort excellent.

Thanks one & all for dropping in and taking the time to comment.

I guess the moral of the story is, as you have all noted, it does pay to be patient.

I was reading a book by a landscape photographer for Lonely Planet who made the same point and that much of his success was due to doing his research on a location and being patient (as well as frequently dis-appointed when an 'event' did not happen).

Cheers
Grant

I actually like the mood of the third shot the best, it's got a certain sort of energized atmosphere and the water just looks luminous. The last one is a beautiful sunrise to be sure, but I think the second and third are the best as photos.

Thanks for that, appreciate the observation and comment.

For those blessed with the power of observation, have a close look at the first shot and see if you can nominate the activity(s) going on.
There is actually quite a bit happening in that shot.
Cheers

I have taken similar shots and the light changes so quickly its hard at times to get the exposure right or changed quick enough. I really like the last one. JIM

Looks like someone kayaking and maybe a fisherman. I wouldn't mind being out on a kayak for a sunrise like that myself.

Wonderful series, and really it is best as a series, I like the successive increase of light and the rising sun!
