Today I went for a short walk with.........

.......with the K20D and the 55-300. It was the first time that I really had the chance to try the 55-300 in real life and I must say that I am impressed. Not as good as Bigma but for the price and light weight not bad at all. Some fringing at back lit subjects but easily corrected. ( I left it in on purpose)
All four images are heavely cropped, around 75%. I didn't take the tripod, just the monopod.

First I found this Canada Goose

Than I came across a bunch of Red-winged Blackbirds, both male and female.

Comments are always welcome and appreciated.

I don't know how you get your images so sharp, but they look fantastic. The compositions are excellent.

Nice series Heinrich! I hope you enjoy your 55-300 as much as I enjoy mine. I've had mine since December, and the the more I use it the more I like it. As you said, occasionally some fringing shows up, but not too often, and it's the kind that's easily removed. Hope you have a good trip.

Regards,
Thank you Scott and yes this lens is just fine. I just couldn't see me lagging Bigma around on long day hikes, this is a nice compromise. Thanks for the good wishes as well, it is going to be a relatively short trip, 3 -4 weeks in total.

Take care,

Those are nice Heinrich. I see these birds every day when my wife and I take a walk around one of the ponds in our housing development. Just the other day, she asked me what was the name of these birds (she was looking at the male), and when I told her she said...."You just made that up." Guess I will show her your pics and names.
Hi Tom and thank you. One has to admit that it is a rather simple name for a bird, just a description really and besides that the female of the species looks nothing like a black bird at all.

Take care,

Although #3 is striking for its brilliant red splash, I find myself drawn to #2. Wonderful series.
Thank you for the kind words,

Looks like an excellent lens for the money. Quite impressed over here.
Thank you, I knew that it was an OK lens when I purchased it but it has exceeded my expectations.

Take care,

Hi JMR and thank you. As for sharp images, you gotta hold the camera real still when you press the shutter thingy Seriously, it is a surprisingly sharp lens but at 300mm I need some sort of support for the camera. I always take at least the mono-pod and it in combination with a fence post or any other stationary object I usually manage to get things stable.

Take care,

Nice, I like the blackbird shots, ready for illustrating for a bird book, I think!
