Today I went for a short walk with.........
Posted By: Heinrich Lohmann, 05-08-2009, 10:51 PM

.......with the K20D and the 55-300. It was the first time that I really had the chance to try the 55-300 in real life and I must say that I am impressed. Not as good as Bigma but for the price and light weight not bad at all. Some fringing at back lit subjects but easily corrected. ( I left it in on purpose)
All four images are heavely cropped, around 75%. I didn't take the tripod, just the monopod.

First I found this Canada Goose

Than I came across a bunch of Red-winged Blackbirds, both male and female.

Comments are always welcome and appreciated.

ahhh I see you purchased it well done Heinrich - I agree for the price you can't beat the range , size and quality. Really nice shots of the blackbirds.

Hi Dave and thank you. Yes I bit the bullet reason being that we are leaving on a short road trip to southern Ontario on the 26th of this month. Bigma is nice but I am past lugging it around on a day hike and wanted something longer than the 50-200.

Take care,

Nice series Heinrich! I hope you enjoy your 55-300 as much as I enjoy mine. I've had mine since December, and the the more I use it the more I like it. As you said, occasionally some fringing shows up, but not too often, and it's the kind that's easily removed. Hope you have a good trip.

Regards,

Those are nice Heinrich. I see these birds every day when my wife and I take a walk around one of the ponds in our housing development. Just the other day, she asked me what was the name of these birds (she was looking at the male), and when I told her she said...."You just made that up." Guess I will show her your pics and names.

Great shots!

Although #3 is striking for its brilliant red splash, I find myself drawn to #2. Wonderful series.
