Learning as I go
Posted By: robbiec, 05-09-2009, 02:27 PM

Hi All,

Basically took up photography as a new hobby around December time. Went for a wander today with my dog Rufus and a K20D with a really old Chinon 50 f1.8
Here's what I came up with...

Hi robbiec,
Welcome aboard.
Rufus obviously likes your hobby, if you are getting as much enjoyment as he is then you are well on your way.
As for critical comment on the photos its a bit difficult given their size, but a touch more exposure or a tweak in pp (very much depends on your software) would help.
For viewing it helps if you post your shots a bit larger, say 800pix.

Cheers
Grant

Thanks Grant, I've bumped them up a couple of notches in size.

All of them (except maybe the first one) suffer from central compositions. Usually photo's are more interesting when the subject is moved to the side a bit. The rule of thirds is a useful rule of thumb to keep in the back of your head: Rule of Thirds

Sorry if that sounded harsh, re-reading it made it sound a bit patronising. Technically your photo's are sound, good use of DOF and good (although perhaps slightly underexposed) lighting. Keep it up, and keep posting

Yep, i'm in a bit of a quadary now with the Chinon... I was looking at getting a 58mm Voightlander but after getting those shots I have to reconsider. The limited 31 or 77 are now in my sights....

Your dog is too cute.

I like the photos. But yes, try to post them a bit smaller in width.
