Few shots from last night.. Bowling AMF
Posted By: fractal, 05-11-2009, 12:16 AM

More for archival purposes, i took these last night. This DA 18-250 can be a VERY frustrating lens in low light.

We have a troupe usually of about 18-22 people that meet every Sunday, (in Guangzhou China) for a bit of wind down. Simply a chance to have a few beers and a laugh. Highest score for the 3 months we have been doing this is a 200. Yes, we are amatuers

This is what gets you to 200

Cool, are these ex-pats from aust or everywhere?
Thats certainly is a great escape from the rat race of the big city.
Although i could swap the tsing tao for a coopers pale at the drop of a hat, but you gotta do what you gotta do, hey...
Cheers Neil

Don't get me started on Cooper's pale mate.. i have not had one for nearly a year!

These folks are from all round the place; Turkey, Egypt, Aus, Canada, America, France, India, Thailand, New Zealand, England & China. I don't think i forgot any.

I focus on the person while bowling and then take the shot as soon as they turn around after seeing the strike/spare/ etc.. Often you have a wonderful / emotional image. Something about the way people react to a pin lie strips away much of humanities reserve. An easy shot, but often rewarding.

I think a few of them capture the atmosphere and motion of bowling well.
We took our young children bowling for the first time a few weeks ago and I tried snapping a few photos to try to illustrate some of the same things you managed to show us. However I wanted to stop action a little more so I used some bounced flash which may have been annoying for the other bowlers so I did not shoot more than 20 shots.
Bowling, smoking and drinking. My mother has bowled for years and years so some of your images instinctfully conjure smells and sounds all there own. She bowled during the day and on women's leagues though so not so much beer drinking.

You are absolutely right there and i realised this after i missed a bunch of great shots. I will probably try again next weekend and try and get some snaps of what you are talking about.

Week two with the Pentax.. starting to think AF is not the way to go here. Managed to get ALOT of crappy shots. But then again, i was a little more concerned about the game this week.
