Stairway to the stars

This system of 16 locks forms part of a series of 29 over an elevation drop of 72m. Started in 1774 and finished in 1810 as a transport link across southern counties of the UK, it is now used mainly by pleasure craft.

Hi Ole - yes it apparently takes 2 1/2 to 3 hours to travel just the 16.

I love your title, and they are interesting photo's.

In my opinion if you ever have a chance to photograph some tall sail boats in them (preferable several lined up at once) it would make an incredible photo.

To Little laker - unfortunately your idea has little chance as the canal is too narrow for sail boats and is used for what we call narrow boats - max 3m wide and around 13m long. It would be a wonderful sight however.
