Film Noir Photoshoot
Posted By: alohadave, 05-17-2009, 06:44 PM

I attended a photoshoot setup through meetup.com last night. The theme was Film Noir. We had three models in 40's costume, using flash to set the mood.

What fun! Some lovely B&W work there with excellent control of the lighting. Beautiful cool, moody tones in the colour shots, too. The women seem to have really got into their roles, but the bloke doesn't look too interested, which is a pity. Maybe she should have shot him in the arse to liven him up a bit.

Great job - I almost can see Hitchcock in the background doing one of his famous cameo walk ons.

The conversions really work although I think there might be a little too much contrast.
Maybe you could introduce some grain as well.
Very well composed set though.

1,2,3,6,7 were taken with two Speedlight on a light stand. One on top for the faces, one about halfway down for the body fill. Both at half power, maybe 6-8 feet away.

4,5 with a Quantum QFlash high on a light stand.

8 had two light stands with one Speedlight each to light each model separately.

From the title of the thread I was prepared to see all B&W stuff...but I have to say that I think I like the color shots a little better! Goes to show you never can tell.

Good work! I agree with AOski, I also prefer the color shots, im particular the first two. What makes them work is that the color range (except for that green curb) is limited to black, brown, grey white.

I can't decide if the green curb adds to the picture or is a distraction...
