Some B&W aircraft
Posted By: vespa, 05-18-2009, 02:00 AM

Browsing some old shots i decided to have a go at giving them a more vintage flavour, all were shot in jpeg and messed up in elements.
First shot was given the quasi HDR treatment with topaz adjust first.

Yep, that's dirty allright! Gloucester Meteor? What a day out you had - I'm green.
North American F-86 Sabre. Certainly getting the 1950s look. Whitewashing the vehicles at the rear in Photoshop would complete the impression.

Thanks for the kind words chaps,my dad was a De Havilland apprentice and did his national service in the Royal Observer Corps (who's vital role during the battle of britain is largely forgotten).I grew up leafing through aircraft recognition manuals and pinning on my bedroom wall restricted photos of britains aerospace development in the 60's.Not to mention his first editions of the "Biggles" books ao i guess i was doomed from a young age.......we lived a stones throw from the Gloster aircraft works and my first motorcycle ride was down the runway once used by Hurricanes,Typhoons and MeteorsNow sadly an industrial estate although all the roads do bear the names of Gloster aircraft.Couple more-Spitfire and P40.

Great images. Got to love the Spitfires and Hurricane and you've captured them well.

FWIW, If you would like to add some age to the photo you might also try a little sepia.
Here is one of my great uncles photos from Africa in WW2.

As the HDR/mono shot seems to be popular i've tried it with a few more from the same day,all were shot in jpeg then played with using topaz adjust a while ago.Better results could probably be obtained processing a RAW with the final image in mind rather than revisiting old conversions-looks like it would be worth buying the program after all.

Yep...new conversions look great. For some reason they seem to have a lot more depth to them.

I like them a lot!
