Wild & Woolly weather
Posted By: Mallee Boy, 05-21-2009, 01:26 AM

Take 300mm of rain in 24 hrs (1/3rd of the annual rainfall), a high tide, gale force winds and you have a bit of a mess.

This is right across SE Qld, Australia, reports are saying it is the worst weather conditions since 1974.....must be global warming......but then what caused it back in 1974?? The cycle continues.

Anyway, went for a walk with the camera this evening.
K20, FA 43 ltd, f2.8 to f1.9 (it was getting dark) and handheld.

This foam as at fire-engines. It has ruined a life at ocean?

That's sea-foam It's just frothed-up water, totally natural and does not affect the beach life. You see it a lot more on hte beaches when the wind really gets blowing and the waves get more impact.

Great pics, Mallee!

And on first look I thought I saw snow. Quite the storm to brew up that much sea foam. Great series.

You can send some of that wet stuff down here, mate. It's still dry as a cracker in SA, except for Lake Eyre.

Great shots. Keep 'em to show the grandkids what real rain used to be like.

BTW, how did you get on with that beachscape project?

Good shots of extreme weather Grant. Looks almost like a beer tanker overturned.
What a waste that would be.

Hi Wombat,
My sister still lives at Karoonda (in the Mallee) and they have stopped seeding because of the dry. If I could re-direct it mate....I would, with the greatest of pleasure.

The seascape is still in the contemplation stage (read when I get around to it) stage.

Cheers
Grant

Thanks for looking and commenting.
Things eased up a bit and then returned with a vengeance. There is a lot of damage & debris, beaches are closed and we are generally pretty soggy.

A couple more shots. It was very dark when I took these, handheld using long exposures, even SR couldn't save me.

Great series, Grant.

#1 - is that BurleighHeads? I was just talking to my MiL in Runaway Bay. She says that they hardly got anything.
