Great series. I recently sold my FA 80-300mm and will be buy the DA 55-300mm next week. You pics just confirm my decision to get the 55-300. Thanks for posting.
Thank you Frank and you won't be sorry.

Take care,

Thanks for posting these Heinrich! Really good photos.
Looks like good lens!
Thank you Joni for the kind comments and yes, it is a good lens.

Take care,

That lens is magic on your camera. I thought I had got a couple of decent Red Wing Blackbird shots, but alas I had not!

That is a great three shot series. The first one in mid song? Wow!

And the close ups are spot on. I take it you would be a big booster of that lens?

I am ready to dump my PF'n tamron 70-300 but would still like a 300mm lens. If I could get on that looks half as good as yours...
Hi Gus and thank you. As for the one in "mid song" you don't want to know how many exposures that took :-)

Take care.

I really like #5, the looking through the foliage effect. As for the other four I don't like the compositions that much, they're all quite central. I'd crop them a little to get the birds to the borders, so to say. For the rest they are perfect though, sharp, colourful, good bokeh, the works.
Thank you Kevin for looking and commenting, it is appreciated but don't get hung up on the rule of thirds. There are many other so called "rules" that make an image work. Personally I don't pay any attention to any "rules". When I look at an image after I'm done processing I can usually detect a "rule" that might apply to it. Have another look and see if you can find the "diagonal rule"

Take care,

Super shots! I was surprised with trust of birds to you, 300мм it at all is a lot of!
Thank you drmartin, it is appreciated.

Heinrich, these are great shots - do you manage these hand held?

Jer
Hi Jer and thank you. Mostly with a mono pod but some are handheld, which ones? I wouldn't know

Take care,

Flawless set! 2,3, and 4 are my favorites. Very tight and crisp captures Heinrich. I love seeing details in their beaks and claws.
Thank you Jeff for the praise it is appreciated.

Take care,

Nice set Heinrich - man that area sure looks like some of the wetlands here all witht the same species of birds. You have done that combo proud. Well done.
Thank you Dave, it is a small acreage right along the walking path just outside city limits.

Take care,

Thanks, Heinrich, but I don't really think there's anything wrong with my camera and lens. Must be something else.

Beautifully done, Heinrich.
I, too, am surprised at the capabilities of the 55-300 lens. Looking at your shots, you inspire me to get it on the camera a little more than I do.

Well done!

There must be something wrong with my equipment, because I can't shoot photos like that with the same combination.
Well, sometimes in affordable lenses, the quality is different in them... You can catch a very good one like you can catch a standard quality one.

Also, the conditions vary from what our friend captured and what you have captured before things like sunlight, atmospheric conditions like humidity and so on... Finally, some are better at post-processing than others... that can make a difference in final image result.

Hi Bruce and thank you. I have not used it all that much either but next Tuesday we leave on a 4 week road trip and it will accompany me on every hiking trail.

Heinrich,
you've produced extraordinary captures using a consumer-level telezoom.
Well done.
Thanks for sharing.

Great stuff Heinrich. I've yet to get a good blackbird shot and you've got a bunch of them. Very fine.

Thank you Georg, it's a nice bird and not quite as nervous as some other species.

Take care,
