Heron With Red Winged Blackbird · 09:48 AM

I am new to DSLR (Pentax K2000) and still learning but was really excited when I got this picture this morning of a Heron and a Red Winged Blackbird.

Your feedback is appreciated.

nice capture.... 2 species not normally seen together in such close proximity...
comparing the static heron and the dynamic blackbird, interesting contrast ...
if you could crop out to the left of the heron's beak, it might bring the subjects a bit closer...

I too prefer the first version, the heron needs room in front of his beak. Fantastic shot you've got there! I like this one too from your site. If that were mine I wouldn't have the full size image available for download - people need to pay for prints of my work (not that they do, but they need to

They're all very nice, although I do like the crop because it's easier to see the blackbird, at least at this size. The heron seems rather oblivious to the smaller bird. Just yesterday I was watching a pair of red-winged blackbirds mobbing a crow, and it certainly did pay attention! They were very aggressive (rightly so, the crow was doubtless looking for their nest) and succeeded in driving it away. Of course I didn't have my camera with me...
