US Air Force Memorial, Arlington, VA

Shot these today at the US Force Cycling Classic. First time I'd been down to the memorial for my branch of the US military...

Shot with the DA 16-45... but I really needed that DA 10-17....

Very nice, Mike. Do you know when they created that? I've only been to Arlington once, just after 9/11/01 , and I don't recall seeing anything like it.

The second image is very good. I love the way you composed the shot with the sun peaking on the edge of the monument.
Well done.

Nice Mike. My only shots of this are from the window while driving past on 395. Someday I need to stop there and take some real shots of it.

Thanks everyone. #2 was definately "the shot" I just wish I'd had that DA 10-17mm. It'd have been better if I could've included everything from the ground up.

#1 is just a standard "documentary" shot to show what the monument looks like overall.

Great shots, Mike - number 2 is particularly cool to me. To be honest, I didn't know the individual services have memorials - I don't ever recall seeing the Army one when I was in Washington.

Any way - super pictures.

Jer,

Actually the only other "service specific" memorials are the US Marine Memorial and the US Navy Memorial. The US Army has no stand-alone single service monument or memorial but darn near every military related memorial in DC is very heavily Army oriented (and I for one am extremely greatful for their service and sacrifice). Maybe they do need to build an Army specific memorial though.

Well you had the DA 10-17 for a while and you gave it back !! I really like the second shot. The DA 12-24 would be a good choice as well.

Well, us old Army guys can't complain; as you say, the Army hardly goes unnoticed among the memorials.

I was in Washington about a year ago and saw - for my first time the WWII, Korean War and Vietman War memorials. Quite a privilege for me.

Ah, thanks - I didn't think to google it up... My brain musta been occupied with getting ready for the software testing I'm at this week. Yeah, that's the ticket, I was thinking about work, yeah... That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!

What an interesting sculpture. I had never seen or heard of it. Both are great shots!
