Kite sailing
Posted By: NaClH2O, 05-31-2009, 06:40 PM

On my way home from work there is a small beach on Jamaica Bay just east of Coney Island. If the wind is right lot of Kite sailors and windsurfers congregate there, especially on Friday afternoons. One day I grabbed my K20D and the Pentax A 70-210 and stopped off on my way home. Here are a few shots from that.
BTW, I didn't find this particularily easy. Pan, focus, zoom all at the same time. I'm surprised I got as many keepers as I did.

Great shots - believe it or not, I've never seen pictures if kite sailing - looks like a rush for which I'm sadly too long in the tooth .

Same here Jer, in my younger days (read younger knees) I was a pretty good wind surfer. These guys are way faster! But judging from what I've seen (admittedly only one day) you can only sail on a broad/beam reach. I saw nobody tight on the wind (prolly impossible) and more importantly nobody going down wind. But in any case, these guys scoot! Looks like a blast.
BTW, thanks for the kudos.

Great captures Salty - Love #2. I saw a few of those when I was in Mexico - I would like to give that a go actually - but it's low on the bucket list and soon my body will say wtf haha.

Thanks Dave, yeah me too. Looks like fun but a fair amount of work learning how. But they do move! One other note, when I usually drive by it seem that they are all jumping and doing all kinds of tricks. As soon as I stop and break out the camera, hardly anyone is jumping any more.
