Once in a blue moon.
Posted By: SCGushue, 05-31-2009, 07:55 PM

I was outside this afternoon cooking dinner on the deck. I saw the moon rise over the woodlands around my home. I had been using my SMC A* 1200mm for a project recently and just happened to have it at home this weekend instead of locked up at the studio, so I decided to bring it out and see what came of shooting the moon in the afternoon. I looked for the 1.4 X converter, but I apparently left that at the studio. The 1.4 fills the frame nearly 100%.

The second image is the rigging to pull it off.

Seriously Stephen, beautiful frame filling shot. Excellent color, except we get to see it up close! That's where a lens like this can shine - unobtrusively photographing shorebirds from a distance is a classic example. Look forward to more posts as always!

Regards,
Marc
Thanks Marc, I'll PM you later this weekend.

Being a pentaxian for less than 2 yrs, I did'nt even know this lens exist. Amazing moon shot.
Understandable. A number of years ago I owned some of the really long Pentax 6X7 super telephotos. Compared to those this is, weight wise, much easier to use and the optics are much better with less CA. Hang around for a few more years, I'm sure Pentax will be a force to be reckoned with in the not too distant future, like they were 30 years ago when I started using their equipment.
