Fairyland Basin
Posted By: SCGushue, 05-31-2009, 08:27 PM

I recently returned from some time in Utah. This is one of the scenes from the trail that leads through Fairlyland loop. It is the northernmost of the many amphitheaters that erode away from the western plateau that make up Bryce Canyon NP.

Click the link below, then click on the iamge to see a large vrsion than is shown on the forum.
http://www.pbase.com/scgushue/image/112783021/original.jpg

Here is a thumbnail of said pano. I'll try to make this full size soon.

More panos from the trip can be seen in the same gallery as the above. Hi bandwith is required as even these small panos are many MB's.

Thanks. It is a Great place! I was there (stayed at Bryce Lodge for a couple of nights) around May 6,7,8. Weather was great, though I wish there was some cloudiness to add some drama to the skies and soften some of the harshness of the landscape.

But a great trip none the less.

Thanks "Brit". I used the K20D and the 31mm. Two images stitched in PTGui.

Jimbo. Thanks for seeing what I saw. Sometimes the landscape in Bryce is so overwhelming that it is hard to compose an image to my satisfaction. I thought the framing gave some depth and scale and a little personality to the landscape. Almost like you reach out and rub your hand over the back of this hoodoo.

Stephen

BTW, I enlarged the link in Pbase for more detail... so if you click on it now it will allow you to get a larger, but still managable version of the pano.

Thanks Peter,

Due to some injuries last year I didn't do much personal photography, just the stuff I do daily to earn my keep . But I was burning out and just decided to go out west and do some pano work. I'll be posting some soon. But wow... Utah is beyond belief for a photographer that likes landscape work. It's hard not to just take off and move there.

I wondered who took all the clouds. Nice going.

But, I sat with my wife on the canyon ledge under a full moon.

In all seriousness, the place is fantastic and the weather was great, if not rather cool at night. The clouds do add a lot of charactor and do open up the options on how to image a scene.

Good to see our color output seems to match.

We had lots of clouds over Memorial Day weekend:

https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/post-your-photos/61656-national-parks-zion-bryce-canyon.html (last two are from Bryce)

Got caught in a cloud burst while cooking dinner/setting up the tent. Finished the tent in a hurry before we got soaked.
