I took this picture today (01/06/09), of a piece of abstract sculpture over on the South Bank, London.

Chiaroscuro works very well in this B&W image. Nicely spotted and well photographed.

I've researched this piece of sculpture online.

Its called Minerva, and is sculpted by Alan Collins. Although I think it looks like a Spartan.

Minerva was the virgin goddess of warriors, poetry, medicine, wisdom, commerce, weaving, crafts, and the inventor of music. She is often depicted with an owl, her sacred creature and a symbol of wisdom.

I guess the owl is loosely referenced by the protuberance on her left side, above her shield arm.
