kit lens test shots with question
Posted By: hinman, 04-24-2007, 07:23 PM

I wonder if the forum can help me with suggested default settings with Bright Mode in K100D to use with kit lens for improving sharpness -- any information to get sharper picture.

The above picture is taken in P mode with everything default. Auto iso pick iso800 for the picture. I am newbie to my K100D and when I blow up the picture to bigger size, I see the picture not as sharp. Is that due to iso800 with some noise or the kit lens being soft in low light setting. It is not at the wide aperture. Maybe it is sharp enough, but I just don't know whether by increasing the sharpness to +1 will improve the picture. Any caveats in setting sharpness to +1 in birght mode And any preferred settings with sharpness, contrast, saturation in using the bright mode or natural mode in K100D can help me greatly in learning.

Thanks,
Hin

The sharpness on mine is set at +1, but I don't think that it makes much of a difference.

If you only shoot still objects try changing your iso to 200, and you'll probably see some considerable improvement.

I only take mine off of 200 for action and birds, and usually get pretty sharp pic's

I took a look at the above photos on Flickr and looked at the EXIF of the first photo.

1/20 @ f4

You're pretty close to wide open and the shutter speed is pretty slow. If you don't have SR turned on, it'll certainly help but it doesn't make photos perfect. I would recommend underexposing a stop or so and fixing it with your favorite image editor.

a few things

I think you should try a tripod and put the camera on aperture priority and use a smaller aperture such as f 8 and use 200 iso .
