It's always a good day when you capture natural behaviour.
I guess Goliath beat David this time round.

A very nice crisp selection of pics but, IMVHO, I believe the "title" could be renamed:
"A mockingbird flies over a hawk" or "bemused hawk watches as mockingbird does a flyby"

Cheers,

Jack

Many thanks for the kind comments. As a novice I'm pleased to have shots reasonably in focus and exposed. The comments from the last post to this board truly helped! These images required a pre-focus setting and then moving back from the camera to use both eyes to watch the in-coming bird.

However, when enlarging the area of interest, I am a bit frustrated by the lack of detail in the hawk. Might this be a reflection of the DA 55-300 mm verses a prime lens? And of course, next time I need to get closer!

Many thanks again!

P.S. At the end of the encounter, the hawk was the loser with some feathers definitely out of place. Photo available on request.

Lack of resolution (details/mm (or whatever measure of surface)) is determined by aperture, accuracy of focus, megapixels and quality of the lens. With f/8.0 the first should be fine. You may have slightly missed the focus and 10MP is more than enough. As for the quality of the lens, it's important to note that zooms are never/usually aren't at their best at the limits of their range.

I'd like to add a suggestiont that subjects are best composed away from the center ( Rule of Thirds ).
