Evening Toad!
Posted By: GLThorne, 04-25-2007, 08:21 PM

Since the wife has had my camera tied up for the last few days, she left it sitting in the tractor seat while I was out putting up the grill this evening. In the front walk, with the flood lights on, this FAT toad was sitting just asking for a few pictures. These were taken with the camera siting flat on the ground, 2-second timer, ISO 200, 200 mm, 1.6 sec & F/6.3, and at 9:30PM EST with no additional lighting. This was with the Tamron 18-200 XR Di II lens. Not a bad lens to have! You can see it's throat moving, causing some motion blur as well. Also, that's a bugs leg just sticking out of his mouth. This is right out of the camera, except for a slight crop, and, at my level, I'm pretty happy with this one.

Nice toad! I like the way the lighting enhances the texture of its bumpy skin.

Thanks! Didn't really realize how bumpy they were until I viewed this.

Excellent DOF, right on spot. If you say it's natural light and and accidental frog then I'm even more impressed, it sure looks like it was staged, poor frog in spotlight, trembling with anicipation

This came out great, especially with the shutter speed and low light! Nice job!

Well done!

Nice and sharp

AND

the low angle really makes this shot- good thinking on placing the camera on the ground.

Thanks Tom. With the wife loving frogs in general probably more than me, I kind of have to take the shots when I see them, BEFORE she grabs 'em up! Life with a country girl - nothing like it!! 19 years and still truly amazed!

Excellent shot Greg, super! Love the bug leg! Thanks for sharing this. You should hook up with Rupert over at DPR, IIRC, he's known as the "toad king" over there.

NaCl(if he's the "toad king" there, maybe you can be the "toad czar" here! )H2O

Thanks Salty. The Toad Czar, huh? Well, I had another shot tonight but forgot to put the card back in and, as you would guess, he was gone by the time I got back!
