Thomas Paine returns home to England
Posted By: Trojan_Llama, 06-06-2009, 02:48 PM

Thomas Paine was born in my hometown of Thetford (England) during 1737, before becoming a stay maker, tobacconist, customs man, privateer, debater, journalist, republican, democrat, revolutionary, author, free thinker, soldier, inventor, and taking part in both the American and French revolutions. He said "the World is my country, to do good is my religion" rather a long time before the likes of John Lennon wrote Imagine.

He died 200 years ago - his friends had deserted him, and he was buried in America with only six mourners (including two servants).

Well, we want him back! Never more so than at this time of British political and economic crisis!

Thetford remembers him this week (all taken with my trusty but ultra cheap Pentax K110D and SMC Pentax-M 50 mm f1:1.7):

What was that line Jim said about "ultra cheap" equipment? This series proves again its not the gear its the gearhead that makes it stand out. Great shots.

Very nice, sharp photos. I have that lens and get similar results, although only on SLR's as I haven't tried it on a DSLR yet.

The camera with kit lens cost me 50 (that was ridiculously cheap) and the lens cost 25 - a total of around US $120. I have a few other lens, but this is the set up that I've been mainly using this year, with manual focus and M mode. I would love a brand new AF lens that fast - but how much would it cost me? A wee bit more than 25 I suspect.

Cheers all.

The first shot is fantastic, Troj'.

I think it offers a lot of potential in PP too. Great white tones.

Wow - what a series. It's like you burrowed back through time to get these images.
