...with my new-to-me ist DS and the FA43. This makes a nice fairly compact (for a DSLR) setup that lives in my purse.

Nice Heather, first one is a great composition, glad to see some of what you learnt in your workshop stayed with you.

I'll second Gary's comment about image 1.

Its visually very interesting - the eye is really drawn in to the image and the contrast is great! Nice one!

Can't see any EXIF data on these - do you have appertures/exposures for each image?

Good to know you've got a neat portable camera too!

I just added exposure info. I also did some PP in Lightroom using various presets (without being at my home PC, I can't remember offhand which ones I used for which pics).

I think the first shot is my favorite, as well. One thing I did do in PP was to burn out some of the distracting elements in the background--other leaves and such growing around the fern itself.

First is great image. I think, if you had stopped down the second image, it would have been good image also.
