Limerick Animal Welfare, located in Moorestown, Kilfinane, County Limerick, is a charity that cares for abandoned and neglected animals. They campaign through education for the humane treatment of all animals. Their website tells the plight of many of their charges, particularly the poor way in which greyhounds are treated in Ireland. There is material there that will break your heart.
They raise funds through donations and a charity shop they run in Limerick City. This is near the railway station at 59 Parnell Street (for those who wish to visit).
A portion of their costs is recovered through rehoming animals they have saved. Their policy is to spay or neuter dogs and cats before moving any animal to its new home.
Please visit their site and perhaps plan a trip out to the shelter, if you happen to be in this part of Ireland. It is about an hour south of Limerick City, set in beautiful countryside. There are historic sites and churches in the vicinity -- a day trip might be the best way to take it all in. If you visit them you can take a dog out for a walk and get to know some of the candidate animals.
Our family will be doing volunteer and awareness work for them this summer. This is my first contribution!
Here follow five images. I will post a reply for a sixth photo I have marked with a warning due to graphical content. It is not too "heavy" but might upset some. Poor Crocket is now being taken care of but is missing an eye.
