Autumn by Vickers Creek
Posted By: Haakan, 06-17-2009, 11:50 AM

Even though I know the Pentax kit lens is a good lens, I still sometimes get quite surprised how capable it is (even in a newbie's hands like mine). Here is an evening shot last autumn at Vickers Creek, Roswell, GA.

Did some post processing to increase contrast.

Feedback welcome.

Best regards,
Haakan

I sometimes feels the urge to get a new lens (I guess that even a newbie can get the LBA), but then with the quality of the kit lens, I have a hard time justifying a purchase covering the same range. But I would like the DA 12-24mm...

Thank you, the exposure time was 8 seconds, so it did create a very smooth surface

Great shot. It's the person behind the camera, not the lens...Well done

I know exactly where that is... I live not too far from there (~10 miles). Do you live around here or were you just visiting?

It's a really nice shot. I like the color of the water together with the brick building and the overall 'darkish' tone to the photo. Only thing I would try, just to see how it works out, would be to darken the upper right quadrant so that it matches more in tone with the rest of the photo.

I can see that they added some railing etc. since I was there last. Maybe I should go check it out... Although it is too hot during the day now, it would have to be in the morning.

PS. Not that it really matters, but the name is Vickery Creek, not Vickers

Hi emilf,
thanks for the nice feedback, I will try your suggestion to darken the upper right part.

I like the river and the park very much. I visited quite a few times with my kids, and during the autumn the temperature is a lot more manageble. Just where I took the photo there is also a nice covered bridge crossing the river.

You are right, the name is Vickery Creek (I guess I am getting old).

I did live in Roswell for some time for my work, but since this year I have moved back to Sweden.

Best regards,
Haakan

That's a lovely shot, and I really like the blue tones. Just goes to show that it really is more about the photographer than the lens
