The tree dwelling local
Posted By: fractal, 06-21-2009, 05:09 AM

Went to my friends farm this weekend and the local Koala was up in his favorite tree this morning. He seemed pretty placid and comfortable with the distance. They can be quite vicious sometimes.

I forgot to bring my zoom lens along with me so I was scaling a rusty old ladder with my Super Tak 55 to get these.

Have not seen a Koala in the flesh for a long time so it was nice. Although, I had forgotten how strange they look.

Sorry about the blown highlights. Have not really figured how to avoid them.

Cool.
#3 looks right in the face of these little beasts.
Hard to avoid the distracting highlights when you've got limited perspectives to be able to capture the koala in its comfy spot.

Nice set of images....#3 and #4 are quite good.

Hard to avoid the blown highlights as Ash says.

BTW, is that a cherry pine its in? I've only ever seen them in gum trees around our place.

Thanks Chris.

I'm not sure what kind of tree that is.. There was a giant gum tree right next to this one so i'm also unsure why he was up this one. We saw another koala the previous day and he was also perched in the same kind of tree.

I always wanted one when I was little, had a stuffed one for probably 14 yrs. (guess they aren't really pet material.

Thanks for the memories, Tracey

Tracey, hehe no they are not really pet material.. my fiancee has been contemplating catching one though.

I did have a friend that tried to pick a young one up that was roaming about on the road and actually got scratched up really badly.

Thanks for posting these. In the last 2 pics he seems a bit miffed that someone woke him up from his nap. :-)

Nice shots. To catch a shot of a koala in the wild is awesome.

That comment about catching one, I think you could find a heap of trouble as the result.
Not only the scratching but, I think you will find it is totally illegal, except by licensed authorities.

Thanks Bramela.

Yes, I don't doubt at all it would be illegal. It was not attempted nor was it a serious comment.
