Seagulls over hilton Head, SC
Posted By: GLThorne, 04-29-2007, 04:18 PM

A few seagulls that were nice enough to fly by slow enough for me to get a few decent shots. Still with the Tamron 18-200.

Best bird shots I have to date, in my mind!!

Thanks Dan. I was pretty impressed, and surprised with them myself. I've seen all the excellent in flight bird shots here and was only hoping for something good enough to post. I think I got lucky with these.

I have to agree with Dan, excellent shot, feathers nice and sharp, nice wing angles, I'd be proud too, if it was mine.

Thanks Salty. Glad you like them as well. That was a perfect day at the coast. Too bad one of my employees and I only had about 2 hours before hitting the road again!!

The first and third are my fav's of the lot. I have tried snapping 'flying gull' pics but with little success - you have done a fine job.

As someone who has never been able to shot a flying bird, I know I am not entitled to air an educated opinion on these photos. Still, I liked them and I liked the second one best due perhaps to the presence of the trees and the clouds, which provide extra depth and feeling. Below is my attempt at cropping your second picture. I hope you do not mind my playing with your photo. As I said, this is an area I always failed... Thanks for sharing.

Great shots

Great shots..... and the lighting is perfect. I took a load of seagull pictures a while back with my DS+DA50-200, but I didnt have your knack, and had to throw most of them away.

How do you do this? These are wonderful. You must have a since of timing like Elvin Jones.
