Deception Creek
Posted By: scole, 06-22-2009, 07:31 PM

Haven't posted in a while but I have been out exploring new locations. This past weekend I picked Deception Creek, which is what feeds the popular Deception Falls along Highway 2 on the way to Stevens Pass. Found a few nice areas so I think there's more potential. I already can't wait for winter to return to one of these spots for a nice wintery scene...

1. 3 image pano (DA12-24mm @ 12mm)

2. (DA55-300mm @100mm)

3. (DA12-24mm @ 12mm)

4. (DA12-24mm @ 12mm)

5. (DA12-24mm @15mm)

Thanks for looking..

You have some superb images. I am not a fan of large areas of water that turns ultra-white, and I know it is a function of longer exposures, and can't be helped, but your beautiful greens and excellent compositions more than make up for the white water. I really like your first and second shots best. And the second of the rocks is superb and a good way to use the white water.

Thanks, everyone!

The last shot is my favorite and one that I hope to reshoot this next winter with a nice fresh coat of snow.

I didn't know you can pano long exposures. I guess as long as the images are similar enough it'll be ok? Lovely images. My faves are the Pano and the third one

What is it that's so deceptive about this place?

Got me! I don't know for sure but I think the name probably stems from the early exploration of this area. Here in Washington State, there are only 2 year-round corridors through the Cascade Mountains. Back around 1900, western settlement was increasing and the railroads were looking for routes through the mountains to connect the Puget Sound with the rest of the state (and country).

The creek is located in the general area where the railroad finally did punch through the mountains so I'm guessing that this creek/area was one of their failed routes & explorations..
