Grass with a twist...
Posted By: heliphoto, 06-24-2009, 06:11 PM

This grass at a desert oasis was twisted into a spiral standing about two feet (.6m) high. I can only guess a dust devil came through and twisted it up. The cloud mirroring it in the background was just luck... Pretty cool.

K20D @ ISO 100, DA*16-50 @ 16mm, f/6.3, 1/250.

I can't make my mind up whether it stunningly dramatic or dramatically stunning Josh.
Either way, I think that's a fantastic shot and excellent processing.

Remarkable, Josh. Makes me realize we're "not in Kansas anymore."

Crop circle and matching cloud circle

Right place right time, and great skills make the shot. I think you may have just won a comp or two with that shot.

Great shot and I love how that cloud kind of shoots up mimicking the grass twist.

Incredible shot. I'm just waiting for the tumbleweeds to come rolling on by.

Thanks Dale - I'll need to find a comp to enter it in .

Yeah, that cloud caught my eye a second after I spotted the twisty grass - I worked fast lest the cloud disappear before I got the shot... worked out .

Glad you like it... There are plenty of tumbleweeds around... they weren't drifting along this morning, but they do tend to do that .

Very impressive shot! Very observant of you...most people can walk around below halos and nice clouds without notising them, and the see the appearant similarity in the grass twist and the cloud anvil is very good. Well processed also. I can see this as a great poster! And as an amateur photographer and atmospheric researcher with a degree in meteorology I apprechiate it from a dual perspective.
