Old film travel pics
Posted By: Ash, 07-02-2009, 06:03 AM

Memorable captures I was fortunate enough to steal away with my trusty (now retired) Rickoh XR10 with Pentax 50/2 on hand...

There were all from a trip to Kenya I went on a couple of years ago:

Please keep tidy:

Decrepit railway overpass (acutally neglected and never used - people just cross the tracks thesedays...):

Apologies for the poor sharpness - couldn't get a scanner good enough to get decent digital images. These are just for fun, though...

Thanks mate.
Probably my last set of film captures, but I wouldn't shy away from film photography if the chance came up again...

Some more from this trip from my old Ricoh SLR to share:

Coal train traversing the mountainous regions of central Kenya

The common method of gathering firewood

Struggling to get to a medical outreach clinic on an extremely slick clay road

Even more harrowing was the 4WD going down the hill - we had no idea whether we would just slide right off the cliff...

Tea plantation in central Kenya with servants quarters dotted around the property

The infamous Kibera railway line, slicing through one of the world's biggest slums

I have quite a lot of medical-related photos from the trip that I could post - I've hesitated more than once to share them as some are graphic and not for the faint-hearted, even as poor as they are in IQ. There are stories behind each scene and I'd be happy to share them if there is any interest.

Some touristy shots:

Rocky mountain in Hell's Gate National park

Water buffalo in Lake Nakuru

Wild rhino - this one almost charged at me for getting too close

Thanks janury.

Here are some people and their dwellings photos:

The homestead - grandfather-in-law and each of his wives (with their own children) all have a dwelling to themselves within the compound

Children in the homestead

Childrens' games

Traditional Masais

Tribal war re-enactment

Selling herbs for survival

Daily chores

Typical mud home

A richer person's wooden dwelling

Those of us in the First World, there is a lot to be thankful for that we might be taking for granted...
