A few pics from Seattle trip last week:

two of Mt St Helens (also in POTW thread)

This one is from the Underground Seattle tour (see UNDERGROUND TOUR), taken with ambient lighting and monopod

And some original Seattle plumbing from the 1880s...

More to come as I get to 'em...

A few more... After the 1889 fire, Seattle spent a number of years raising their streets to higher levels. While that was underway, though, they left the original sidewalks in place. Eventually they roofed them over and created tunnels below the new sidewalks, but they installed skylights to allow people and businesses to continue operating down there. These are a few shots of the skylights, from below and above.

one taken out of service, the prisms were used to disperse the light more down below...

What an interesting city. You captured the underground well and the story is great.

Thanks for showing both sides - I've often walked over those glass 'grates' wondering what was below!

If you read thru the tour's website, it really is a fascinating tale of Seattle's early days. Lots of greed, backstabbing, politics, and other fun stuff

I do have more pics I'll post later

Me too - I grew up in Seattle but never went on the tour of the underground until now... Makes me wish I hadn't waited so long!

Interesting stuff, Jim. I dimly remember an episode of "Night Stalker", a TV series with Darin McGavin (sp?), that dealt - I believe - with underground Seatle. It, of course, involved some sort of monster, but I can't remember what.

Love the shots of St Hellens. I need to make it down there. And I have never visited the underground city yet either, looks interesting.
