Last Week's East Coast Gathering
Posted By: dadipentak, 07-03-2009, 10:58 AM

Last Weeks Gathering over on ther Eastern Shore of Maryland was terrific-- It was a wonderful group of folks and Brendan did a great job! The Eastern Shore offers a splendid variety of shooting opportunities.

I've just finished sorting out my shots and figured I'd post a few.

Glad you accepted the invitation to join in, Mel! That's a great Egret--mine all had blown-out highlights and I was just surfing for tips on avoiding that.

I underexpose about a half-stop then bring up the rest of the image post. Maybe it's cheating but I don't know. I can only get acceptable shots of the darn birds if they're holding perfectly still anyway and this one just posed in the tree perfectly for me Sunday afternoon (after everyone else had left).

Nice series both of you. The B&W conversion of the stream is really nice dadipentak and that bridge image is excellent Mel!

May I offer some tips on how to avoid blowing highlights on white birds?

Regards,
Marc

OK, the majority wins, since Mel isn't commenting...

New article has been posted here: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/photography-articles/65256-how-correctly-expose-birds.html

mel is busy working on sorting through a portrait shoot of 24 people (all individually) and designing a poster that will feature 19 of them. but yes, she wants to know as well.

thanks for the information! looks like my instincts were kinda sorta in the right direction after all.

I am glad you are designing the poster, not I!!!

You were most definitely headed in the right direction Mel! Just a full stop for pure white birds. Hope the article is of use for both of you and others.

Marc

Thanks, Scott! For better and worse, the Shore is no longer the quaint rural backwater I remember from my youth but there are reminders...
