A bit of controversy with these: fiddleheads are popular food item, and I guess particularly with Chinese (or maybe they're just smart business opportunists, in Chinatown there are buckets of fiddleheads for sale) and in the past fiddleheads were overharvested. I remember a while ago there was some effort to reduce wild harvesting, but the story dropped from the news. Fiddleheads taste mildly bitter, maybe something like broccoli or rapini.
