Vintage Barbershop
Posted By: fletcherkane, 05-04-2007, 11:56 AM

Hey all,
Took my son to a vintage barbershop for a classic style haircut today. An old fashioned flat-top for the summer.
Took the camera of course. Most of the pictures have a "snapshot" quality to them.
However, this one goes in the "Classic" folder. This one is priceless.

Ok, I have tried everything I know...and I am pretty literate on the computer...but can not get the photo to show up in my post.
It appears when I compose it, but not when I post.
Some one please help.

Not showing up on my screen. Maybe it is a Firefox problem? Can't say why it won't display, because I can't see your HTML. Are you using the correct tags? It should be in the form of a URL, preceded by

[ url ]

and closed with a

[ /url ]

(Delete the spaces in the above "code".) Anyway, that's what works for me.

- - - - -

Here is an example from one of my previous posts. I use imageshack.us to host my pictures I publically post. Again, remove the spaces within the square brackets, (with spaces, the parser doesn't interpret as a link, but just text.)

Shows up fine. Was worth the "hassle". Wonderful expression. Are you asking for a critique? If so, I'd crop to a portrait orientation, which will cut off the distracting clutter on the outside edges. I want to see your son, not some barber's snapshots tucked into the edge of his mirror.

Here's what I'd do if I were going to put it in a photo album.

Very cool. Thanks Steve.
I struggled with how much of the Barbershop background to leave in the photo to preserve the atmosphere.
Glad it's showing up for everyone now...

Great shot! I like the full version; has the same feel as a Norman Rockwell illustration,

Thanks. Forgot about the setting. Forgetting that, all I saw was some junk. Except for the shaving cream brush, there is nothing in that image that is "vintage" and gives a sense of the ambiance of the shop. Will your son's fiancée, in 15-20 years, get a sense of the atmosphere of the shop? Without any contextual images, I suspect not.

Now, if it is just a single image in a series that tells a story, then fine. Leave the "stuff" in there. By itself, you son is the primary subject of the image. A keeper for sure in any case. Well done, good timing. We don't get opportunities to capture images like this very often, or, we aren't fast or aware enough to do so.

No way ... without the barber shop stuff he looks like he's sitting in front of a tree or something... keep the shot whole... there's no story without it.
