eye post processing
Posted By: kenemore, 07-10-2009, 06:36 PM

I want to get some input on the post processing on the eyes of this shot. The original has almost no definition in the eye at all... it just looked like a dark circle. I'm just starting to try out this process. Thanks!

Check this out

Hope you don't mind me photoshopping your picture...
I added a bit of brightness to the eyes (copy background layer, change mode to "screen", new hide all layer mask, and then paint white over his eyes), changed brightness and contrast to pupils (same way, just instead of screen - contrast/brightness adjustment). The left eye needed a bit more adjustment cuz it was darker. Also, levels/curves in general.

Hope I didn't do something awful to the picture!

Oh, and it's just a quick thing - I could do more but I gotta go get dinner
Now that I look at it, I might have overdone it a bit.

It looks fine to me in the small image. In the large image, the dark ring around the outside edge of the irises might be an issue.

Looks natural with a barely noticeable "pop". I think it's good.

Thanks all for the comments and other things I can try on the next one. I only used burn and dodge tools. Most of the shots of him (my son) have very little color or detail to the eyes. This helped bring out some color.
