Lawn Tractor Racing
Posted By: SouthShoreRob, 07-11-2009, 03:43 PM

Okay, so I know the title sounds a little bizarre, but as I found out first-hand today, this is indeed a "sport". My sons and I had quite a good time watching these little buzz-bombs circle the grass at speeds greater than any lawn tractor was ever originally designed for. Here are six shots to whet your appetite; the full gallery link is provided at the end of this post.

#1 - The pace "tractor" leading out the next heat...

#2 - Burning down the front straightaway...

#3 - No blades allowed, but still tearing up the grass...

#4 - Fishtail coming out of turn four...

#5 - Near wipeout...

#6 - Jockeying for position...

All shots with Pentax K20D and DA* 50-135mm. Full gallery of some 150 or so photos can be found South Shore Snapshots -- Photography by Rob Way- powered by SmugMughere.

Thanks for looking,

Rob

Neat series Rob - guess if it moves someone will race it.

Reminds me of a comment about offshore racing sailboats: man invents an unimaginably slow means of transportation, then spends millions of dollars racing examples of it.

Great photography

We don't have such races in Singapore

Looks really fun

Notice that you use the 50-135 for all shots

I am hoping to get one too :ugh:

Do you find it too short at times for action photography

Thanks Jer, indeed you`re right - build it, use it, race it. Seems like a pretty standard thing in our society these days.

Just Have Fun, thanks for the comments. As a matter of fact I do find it a bit short for action photography if the event covers more than 40 metres or so. In essence, you have to pick your spot, and then wait for the action to come to you. What I try to do to counteract this is move from point to point as the event unfolds.
