K-7 and Insects
Posted By: chirpy, 07-12-2009, 01:28 PM

My first outing with the K-7. What an absolutely wonderful camera. To me, it's a good step-up from the K20D for a variety of reasons, including:

1. The lovely quiet SshSsh shutter, compared to the clunk of the K20D

2. I'm seeing improved handling of noise (I've had to do less NR as part of my workflow)

3. Better flash exposure control with the macro ring flash

4. Smaller and lighter, it's surprising to me that I noticed this but when you're spending hours hunting down insects, even a little less weight and a slightly smaller camera make a difference

5. Much better menu system, especially the INFO screen

6. I don't miss the SR button, it's easy to switch in the menu (two clicks)

7. I prefer the new SD door, quicker to swap out cards

8. Not a fan of the new strap lugs

9. Don't like the new AF switch - it seems it might break and isn't as easy as the K20D to turn

10. The AF assist light is great for focusing in dark spots

11. SDM focus doesn't seem any faster, but screw focusing does

12. I'm happy I upgraded so far

For all the images - K-7, IS0200, DR, SR, f/16, 1/180, AF160FC, monopod. RAW, processed in Silkypix and PSP:

Rense, you're much too kind.

Many thanks for the comments. I know they don't necessarily show off what the K-7 can accomplish, but they have shown me that it is a step up from the K20D.
