Was fun working with this talented model.

All shot at a local park on a sunny day with strobist setup and 16-50, 77ltd, 100/2.8 macro lenses on hand.

Harsh bokeh of 16-50 at f/4 here:

Full set here: Katrina - a set on Flickr
Comments welcome. Cheers.

Can't see them on here. Check your links. And I did refresh the page just in case it was my browser.

Had trouble with linking with Flickr images I put up.
Changed them over to gallery images for ease...

Better, now I can see them. I like photos 2, 3, and 5. All nice lighting, looks natural.

Did you tweak number 4? It looks, and sorry about this statement, but her head looks like it was dropped into the shirt/sweater or whatever that is she's wearing. And face is kind of washed out.

Thanks.
Yeah I see what you mean about #4 - the top-down perspective probably doesn't suit the turtle neck top she put on, but yes I used basic colour manipulations to get that effect.

Like them all, little foibles and all. So natural looking. In the third image, the background post is a little intrusive, but I still like the natural look.

This was my first critique on here. I'm glad what I was seeing in her face in #4 was your tweaking. The rest look great. Like JMR, I like the natural look she has. Very nicely done Ash.

Thanks Eric.
It was hard to find a shady spot to do these, and still have a non-distracting background.

These are just great. I particularly like #2 and #7.
What and how did you set up your strobes?

Thanks guys.
Denis, I used a single AF540 in wireless mode hooked up to a shoot-though white umbrella (the virtues of bounce and swivel became very apparent in my setup). I also tried it bouncing off a yellow reflected umbrella and liked those results also. So basically exposed for the subject using the flash, and tried (as much as I could) to balance it with the strongly sunlit background.

Well done on the lighting with the flash and umbrella. It looks very natural.

Too bad she wasn't the Katrina that hit New Orleans... Nice shots.
